The Marine Corps’ aviators are now logging more flight hours than Air Force pilots, military officials told the Marine Times.

The Marines are averaging between 14 to 16 hours a month per pilot per aircraft, while the Air Force is averaging 9 to 10 hours per pilot per month, according to congressional testimony Wednesday from General Glenn M. Walters and Air Force Vice Chief of Staff General Stephen W. Wilson.

“Why do you think the Marines are ahead of you on this?” Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) asked General Wilson.

“I don’t have a good reason why they are ahead of us,” Wilson replied.
