A federal investigative agency on Wednesday criticized the Miami VA Medical Center after an independent lab found that eight veterans tested for HIV had different results from those at the VA, the Miami Herald reported.
In a letter to President Trump, Special Counsel Henry J. Kerner said VA officials failed to respond to concerns raised by Roman Miguel, a lab director, until he complained to the Office of Special Counsel in May 2016 and hand-delivered a notice to Miami VA Medical Center Director Paul Russo a month later.
Miguel claims that the Miami VA “failed to comply with procedures for
IDV testing set forth in a May 5, 2015, VA directive. VA Directive 1113.”
Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin, who visited the Miami VA last March, was asked to review the HIV testing procedures at all VA medical centers.
Kerner also sent copies of the letter to Trump to the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.
