Medics taking care of baby passed to American troops at Kabul airport

A video being widely circulated amid the chaos in Afghanistan shows a baby being passed to a U.S. military service member who appears to be near one of the Taliban’s checkpoints near the Kabul airport.

The unidentified service member, standing on a wall amid the strands of barbed wire, reaches for the child and then passes the infant back.

U.S. Marine Corps officials have confirmed the service members are with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

“The baby seen in the video was taken to a medical treatment facility on site and cared for by medical professionals,” said Marine Corps Maj. Jim Stenger.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the child or other family members will be evacuated from Afghanistan.
